October’s winner was Melanie Hunt. She correctly punctuated our passage and won Hurley Write's Online Technical Writing Course, Option 2. Great job, Melanie!

So how did she do it? Here’s the proper punctuation for last month’s contest:

Sally, who was not very good at riding, decided to ride her bike to the market. Unfortunately, she’d forgotten to wear her helmet; when she was hit by a car, she remembered that wearing a helmet is always a good thing, especially for someone who isn’t a very good rider.

If you’re confused by the semicolon or have questions about these commas, it may be time for you to look into a writing course. Call Hurley Write toll-free at 877-24-WRITE (877-249-7483) or send us an email; we’ll explain the ins and outs of punctuation and grammar and help you get on the right track to writing clear, concise content.
