Dangling modifiers are word groups that suggest, but do not name, an actor. When a sentence opens with a modifier, readers expect that the actor will be named in the subject of the next clause. Example: Original: "Though only 12, the driving school agreed to let Sue try to drive." Rewrite: "Although Sue was only 12, the driving school agreed to let her try to drive."
